Pre-training at Shipton Lodge has paid off for Faustus with a win at Rosehill on Sunday Nov 12th. The colt, trained by John O'Shea and ridden by Jim Cassidy, took out first with $70,000 in The Nova 969 Fitzy & Wippa Handicap (1100m).
With just one trial as a lead-in to the race, his performance was one of the best of the two-year olds. “He is a lovely horse, he is still pretty new but he will take a lot of benefit from today. It was really a track gallop, three-quarter home in one, so a very nice colt,” said Cassidy. He'll be one to watch as we head toward the 2012 Sydney Carnival.
The foaling season is now complete with the last mare foaling last night. We now have a total of 20 young spritely characters livening up our paddock.
This year is very exciting as Bryannbo’s Gift’s first years progeny are being born. They are all strong looking foals and we are looking forward to seeing them develop.

Along with many other trainers, Chris Waller and John O'Shea spell their horses in our irrigated Elite Yards and then go on to be pre-trained on our magnificent track. This month the following horses have won races after spelling and pre-training here. Done Nothin Wrong had a win at Royal Randwick, Dynamic Honour at Gosford, Old Bill at the Port Macquarie Cup and Art Thou Ready at Goulburn.
A dominant win by Listen Up in Singapore may draw attention to his half sister, by Arena, who will go through the June Magic Millions yearling sale under the Shipton Lodge banner. Listen Up is from the stakes placed mare Vee for Victory, who is by the promising broodmare sire Victory Dance.
The son of Shamardal (pictured) was a $130,000 buy for trainer Don Baertschiger from last year’s sale out of the Shipton Lodge draft. He posted a five and a half length winning margin and stopped the clock in a slick 1:35.09 for the 1600m.
“He just needs ground and I think he’s got a bit of a future,” Baertschiger said.
